Week of 4th of July Recap

It's been another crazy week in the Cady household!  "Camp Cady" relocated for a few days to celebrate the 4th of July in Bar Harbor.  Here's what we've been up to!

The last weekend of June was our only "unplanned" weekend of Elissa's trip.  Saturday evening, we finally went to see Maleficent.  Elissa had already seen it, and she brought her Maleficent shirt to wear.  I wore a new tank top that I found at Hot Topic when she and I went shopping.  It was fun to dress for the occasion!  (Although, I doubt anyone in the audience recognized the complete awesomeness of our attire.)  But no worries- I needed something to wear with my Maleficent ear headband anyways!

I really enjoyed the movie and the twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty tale.  It really kept me guessing what was going to happen.  I love how the movie ended.  I won't give away the twists.  But if you haven't seen it already, you definitely should!

Sunday morning, Elissa and I went for another walk on our local trail while Eliot went up ahead of us for a run.  We got back to the car before him so Elissa drew a Mickey in the dirt while we waited for him!

Sunday afternoon, we went over to Old Orchard Beach.  Guess what's there?  A Pirates Cove mini golf.  Since we'd already gone to the one in Bar Harbor, it was time to tackle this one.  In fact, Eliot and I have only been there one other time- for his birthday last year.  It was hilarious to watch us attempt the 36 holes of an unfamiliar course!

After mini golf, we headed downtown for some snacks!  We settled on ice creams from Dairy Queen and Eliot and Elissa got some Pier French Fries to go.  (Yes, the same Pier French Fries we went to on Mother's Day that my Nana loves!)  Finally, we made it back just in time to get a few hat supplies from the local Michael's store!  (They were having a special 40% off everything sale!!  We saved a ton of money.)

On Tuesday, Elissa and I drove up to my parents' house for the 4th of July festivities. We got a head start on the weekend since we weren't doing much down here!  My brother Jeremy was driving up Thursday night and could stop to pick Eliot up; so it worked out perfectly.  Since we had some extra time, Elissa and I spent all of Thursday afternoon volunteering at the Hancock County SPCA.  It was fun to interact with the animals and felt good to give back to the community.

Friday morning came quickly and we were all tired.  Eliot and Jeremy didn't get home until after 1 am.  And Elissa and I stayed up later than necessary to paint our nails.

But, that didn't stop us from getting up to drive into Bar Harbor for the 4th of July Parade! Eeyore was dressed for the occasion in his new 4th of July shirt, and Duffy held the flag.

Every year, my family always sits in front of my grandparents' store in downtown Bar Harbor.  This year was bittersweet as it's the first year with both Grammie and Grampie gone.  Mom and Dad brought Wally the Green Monster to the parade in Grammie's honor. (We gave Grammie Wally a few years ago so she was there in spirit.)

We enjoyed the parade.  I was excited for Elissa to see the small town festivities.  We saw the local fire departments, the lumberjack show, the Anah temple shriners with their go karts and many other local businesses represented in the parade.

After the parade, we took family photos in front of the store.  (And I included a picture of Eeyore watching the parade with his friends.  Eliot and Elissa didn't want to sit so they stayed in the seats the whole time.  It was funny to watch all of the kids in the parade look at them as they passed by.  A few were quite excited to see Olaf enjoying summer!)

Then, Wally, Eeyore, Olaf and Duffy sat in the car while the rest of us went to the park.  (I had to include a picture because Jeremy and Eliot stuffed Olaf into the bag so people wouldn't see him as easily.  They were afraid someone might steal him since he's so hard to find.  I thought he looked like a creeper with his head poking out!)

We sat in Agamont Park right on the ocean for quite a while.  I laid in the grass with my Mickey purse as a pillow and Eliot actually fell asleep.  Before leaving town, we grabbed lunch at the Epi- a long running 4th of July tradition of the Brown family!  Once we got home, we all went to take naps so we'd be fully awake for the fireworks.  (Bar Harbor finally decided to do the fireworks Friday night.)  Of course, it started raining on our drive into town.  They had to shoot them off 45 minutes early, but they pulled it off!  (I didn't take photos since it was pouring and I didn't want to ruin my phone.)

The rest of the weekend, we walked around Bar Harbor and checked out the shops. Saturday, half of downtown didn't have power.  Sunday, it cleared off finally and we enjoyed an ice cream after more shopping in town.  Then, we packed the car up and headed back to Southern Maine.  We got home late last night and it was nice to sleep in my own bed!  I have to say that I missed my computer!  My Mom's laptop just isn't the same.  (Although, it got the job done posting on my blog- so I'm thankful for that!)

This week, Elissa and I are working on craft projects.  I've got a lot of things I'm juggling with my hat business!  Hopefully, I can finalize some of those projects this week!  °o°

  1. I don't know how to comment with my name since I sign in under my husband's address so I will sign as Anonymous JG. I also live in the Great State of Maine! Just saw on Disneystore.com that they have an Eeyore costume for Duffy. Also, last week I purchased the Haunted Mansion organ by Jim Shore-fabulous for any Haunted Mansion fan. I am also the person who sent you the comment about the Disney Paper Bag Album on Calla Lily Blogspot. I really enjoy reading your Blog. It is nice that you find so much joy in Disney.

    1. Yay! Hi fellow Mainer! :-) I saw that Eeyore costume on Facebook a few weeks ago! It's definitely on my "must get" list for the next time we go to Disney! It's SO cute!!! I've seen the Haunted Mansion organ too! Someday, I will have a Haunted Mansion themed room... I'm determined! (A few of my friends and I have a goal that if we ever win the lottery, we're building our own Haunted Mansion house! Ha ha!) I'm so glad that you enjoy reading my blog! :-D
